Prevalence of sensitization to cow‘s milk in EuroPrevall Lithuanian birth cohort
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Although cow’s milk allergy is considered as food allergy prototype, true prevalence of cow’s milk allergy in Lithuania is not known. Aims of this research were to determine the prevalence of sensitization to cow’s milk in EuroPrevall Lithuanian birth cohort, to evaluate the relationship between children age and gender, sensitization to other allergens, relationship between sensitization to food allergens and severity of atopic dermatitis, to determine the influence of different parental factors on sensitization to milk.

Studies on Early Allergic Sensitization in the Lithuanian Birth Cohort
Cohort studies are of great importance in defining the mechanism responsible for the development of allergy-associated diseases, such as atopic dermatitis, allergic asthma, and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. Although these disorders share genetic and environmental risk factors, it is still under debate whether they are linked or develop sequentially along an atopic pathway. The current study was...
متن کاملEarly sensitisation to food allergents in Lithuanian birth cohort
Background The factors responsible for the induction of allergic disease at an early age have not been completely identified. Data about maternal factors during pregnancy and early sensitization to food allergens are limited. Aim: To determine the prevalence of food sensitization in children under 6 months of age and to determine relationship between maternal avoidance of allergenic foods, mate...
متن کاملEpidemiology of food allergy in European infants
The prevalence and causes of food allergy in Europe is still unclear. Individual studies show very different data. Within the EU-funded collaborative translational research project EuroPrevall, a meta-analysis was performed to assess the prevalence of food allergy. The foods assessed were cow’s milk, hen’s egg, peanut, fish, shellfish, and an overall estimate of food allergy. The prevalence of ...
متن کاملIncidence and risk factors for food hypersensitivity in UK infants: results from a birth cohort study
BACKGROUND The prevalence of food hypersensitivity in the UK is still largely open to debate. Additionally its pathogenesis is also unclear although it is known that there are differing phenotypes. Determining its prevalence, along with identifying those factors associated with its development will help to assess its clinical importance within the national setting and also add to the debate on ...
متن کاملPartial protein-hydrolyzed infant formula decreased food sensitization but not allergic diseases in a prospective birth cohort study.
BACKGROUND Exposure to cow's milk protein in early infancy could lead to increased rates of allergic diseases later in life. We investigated whether feeding a protein-hydrolyzed formula (HF) in the first 6 months of life decreased allergic diseases up to 36 months later. METHODS Newborns who had at least 1 first-degree family member with a history of atopy and could not breast-feed were enrol...
